removing knee panel under steering wheel
I have a 99.5 A4 2.8. I need to remove the panel that is under the steering wheel to get access to run some stereo wires. my problem is the two bolts on the front, under the covers. I have tried 6mm, 8mm, and a few english size allen wrenchs, all to fail. What is this bolt? What can i use to remove it?

The bolts that hold the knee pannel on are regular socket type. Im 110% sure on that. They arent hex/allen type. Can you take a pic of what youre talking about exactly. I think what you and I are calling the "knee pannel" must be 2 different things.... Somehow...
There are also 2 or 3 bolts on the side of the dash behind the fuse pannel cover that need to come off to remove the knee pannel.

Yeah they are regular bolts.. I dont remember the socket size, but it is a regular metric socket. If I remember right, they are at a funky angle, and getting a grip on them is not exactly easy.

only thing that I can think of is the previous owner removed it and replaced the bolts with new socket heads. the bolts on the side by the fuse panel are the same size.
