Default Keyless Remote Programming

I just bought a 2004 Audi A4 1.8T. One of the remotes wasn't working so I played around with both. Then both were not working. I took the remotes to the dealer and they told me they needed to be reprogrammed for $135 labor charge. After the work had been completed I looked in my owner's manual. The manual showed me how to reset the remotes myself. I called the dealer to get a refund but the service guy told me that I cannot reset the remotes myself anymore. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,

Jerry

Whenever I disconnect my car battery, my remote's will not work.

All I have to do is lock/unlock the car manually with the key, and then the remotes will work. (i'm not sure what the exact procedure is, but I can usually get them to work by the lock/unlock thing).

Try searching. It's wicked cool, and we don't charge for labor.

No,I used my key while my remote was not working and it didn't fix anything.

I was told that once you remove the battery or the battery dies out, the remote needs to be reprogrammed at the dealer. I wonder why Audi would require you to take your key to the dealer and pay money just to have the battery replaced. It just doesn't seem fair. Perhaps I'm missing something.

The following instructions are to reprogram your switchblade key fob.

1. Take a spare key and insert it into the ignition. Turn it one click forward.

2. Roll down your window just in case. Step outside the car, and lock the car with a second key.

3. With your second key fob press the unlock button. The lights should flash.

4. Now lock the car with the key fob, and then unlock it.

5. Remove the key from the lock and the key from the ignition, and try it's function

This worked like a charm. Thanks for your post, saved me a trip to the dealer.
How dumb this is, after a battery change the radio station memory is intact, but my key fob stops working. Lame.

Thanks again.

Default Key Reprogramming

Alright I had this problem this week and I JUST fixed it 10 minutes ago and here is how you reprogram a 2005 Audi A4 key.

1. get in car close door
2. place key in ignition and turn 1 click
3. press bot lock and unlock button at the same time while key is in the ignition (I did this a couple of times ..... just to make sure)
4. turn car off pull key out of the ignition
5. Key should work as expected.

In my 2004 a4. I only had one key. Hold down the unlock button and while holding the button put the key in the ignition and turn it to on. Don't start the engine. Hold the button for 5 seconds. Take key out and let go of unlock. Should work.
