Default Trouble code: PO431-Help!

Hi Everyone-
I have an Audi A4 3.0 Quattro, 2002. My engine light came on, so I took it to an auto body shop just to find out what the light meant. My trouble code says: Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

What does this mean and what should I do about it? Do I really need to do anything about it??

You probably need a catalytic converter. It should still be under warranty if you have less that like 75k miles.

Thanks, I will check into it. The guy who revealed the code to me said that to replace a catalytic converter, it's a big deal. Like, it opens a can of worms and can cause other problems. What do you think?

I was told P0432....but I suppose it could have been a mistake. What is PO431? What makes you think I have the wrong one?

P0431 Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2).

P0432 main catalyst bank 2 (not heated type).

also could be the o2 sensor/wiring

Sorry about that..you got me a little confused. YES: it is PO431 as stated in the original subject line.

To all that have posted replys: thank you very much, however...
if it's the catalytic converter or the O2 sensor, how important are these things and typically how expensive??
I do not want to get hosed at the dealership. I find them to be a little...um...dangerous for someone that doesn't
know a lot about the inner workings of a car. I'm learning, but I'm not that confident I come out of there 1000K in debt...

so its the warm up cat type then (expensive) but a DIY job and simple as changing an exhaust using the proper safety stands before you go under there, look for a universal catalyst as they are half the price

you could also fit a test pipe to make sure its the cat,

im not suggesting you leave it in there cough because it will give you too much power cough
