Now i was told from my uncle that after 100,000 miles....audi cars start to go and have problems! Now im only 17 and i wouldn't know but he has had 3 or 4 different audi cars in the past....I'm just wondering if i should buy 2000 Audi A6 quattro 2.7 T with twin turbo with 97,000 miles! And im wondering if it would last because i don't want to be fixing problems with it beacuse its is very expensive to fix an Audi!

wow that is an awful lot of miles.... better get it checked out before you buy it... I dont know you're answer, but id do a through and through check.

The big ticket items to be aware of are turbos (not to worry if the previous owner took good care of them by changing the oil regularly), control arms (listen for that clunk when going over bumps -- see the link for details), timing belt (has it been replaced? -- were the wather pump and all the pulleys/tensioners replaced at the same time?), and auto tranny. I'd definitely have a good, independent mechanic check it out before buying. Check the appropriate regional forum to find a good one (search first, post a query to find one if searaching turns up nothing recent).

Biggest tip: make sure you've shopped around before jumping. There are a TON of these cars out there just coming off lease and plenty of them have lower mileage.

The 2.7t will have more problems than the 2.8 and this is just because the turbos. If the old owner has always been running syn. oil then the turbos will be in a lot better off. normal things that you prolly will have to change pretty soon is suspension things. turbos are pretty expensive, but yea just have someone check it out and you should be fine...always use syn. oil regular oil ***** up the turbos and everything else for that matter. if your lookin for something with better relieability i would go with the 2.8Q and with the money you save put a PES G2 supercharger on it. Way faster, better response and PES makes a very relieable supercharger.

 

hehehe 100k and your worried its just been run in man, if it has a decent service history then no worries, bring all your 100k mile cars to the UK and ill make a killing on sales

 

No worries about the engine. the worries are in the turbos, even more so if they have been running regular oil

 

THere are no problems with Audi cars doing high miles - (current one 155k to date last one 169k - before I crashed it!)

the only concern I would have - like the other commenst is with the turbo's

if the car looks like it has been a) used hard & b) not generally carefully maintained / looked after & unless you feel like you trust the seller I would avoid the car - purely as it is a higher pefcmance model. But I would assert these points whether it had done 30k 100k or 200k miles!)

I had a 2001 A6 2.8 (Bought it new in the Fall of 2000). I put about 38,000 miles per year on the car, mostly highway miles. Anyway, when I was in the process of buying the car, I asked the salesman about the longevity of the car. He told me that at 100,000 miles, the front end would have to be replaced. Well, like clockwork, that's what happened. I had to replace the control arms (About $1,400 by a private mechanic). At approximately 120,000 miles, the oil leaks started, namely, rear main seal and various other places. At 140,000 miles, the transmission had to be replaced. The dealer wanted $12,000 to do it (The car wasn't worth $8,000 at the time). I ended up having the transmission replaced by an Audi mechanic privately and sold the car "cheap" to one of my employees.

That's my story. In short, I'd be very careful before I bought a pre 2004 A6 with that many miles on it. By the way, I now have a 2005 A6 3.2. It's a different car than the "old" model. I already have about 50,.000 miles on it and the only problem I have with it, at this time, is the Bluetooth connection.

a mechanic is a mechanic or tech as its termed these days ( we have to look back to remember the old days ) otherwise your wallet wil take a hammering, nothing has changed in the auto industry apart for computerisation and it caused more problems than it was meant to fix so im for deviation of the rules which don't effect the cars emissions or performance so I cheat
