Default transmission compatability for conversion question

Question: Can I replace the automatic transmission in my 2000 A6 / 4.2 with a 5-speed manual from a 2000 A6 / 2.8 ? I know that anything is possible with enough time and money.. My question really is,....is it a bolt on application?
Both units are quattro's

i think the 6 six speed is a blot on. that being said the electrical and TCM are different.

you will be able to pick up a 6 speed at advance automotive. hes over at audizine he might be able to help you alot more as hes helped lots of 4.2 owners with the conversion.

hes scotty@advanceautomative.

im not too sure of the 5 speed is a bolt on. but i do know lots of people over at audizine have successfully done the conversion.

Yes, after doing some research, I'm sure your right. 6-speed, would be "bolt up", ya,...lot's of work, lot's of parts, wiring modifications,,...etc. But, perhaps worth it.
