Problem with 2.0 TFSI engine
Hi,
I have an intention to buy an Audi As long as I know, the new versions of Audi (Q5, A4, A5) usually have 2.0 TFSI engine that uses directly fuel injection technology, and the engine increasing pressure is very well, acceleration is also good, saves fuel.
But it is also said that the car have high-pressure fuel pumping error. I am not a master in this field so I don't really got it. Could anyone tell simply me what that error is and is it serious? Thanks.

Well which Audi are you going to buy and what year? The 2.0TFSI engine has been around (for Audi) since 2004. here is a rundown;
A3 2.0TFSI 200hp 2004-present
A4 B7 2.0TFSI 200-220hp 2005-2008. 2.0TFSIe 170hp 2007-2008
A4 B8 2.0TFSI 180-211hp 2008-present
A5 2.0TFSI 180-200-211hp 2007-present
A6 2.0TFSIe 170hp 2006-2011
A6 2.0tfsi-e 180hp 2011+
Q5 2.0TFSI 180-200-210hp
TT 2.0tfsi 180-200-211-272 2006+
I would buy the newer version of the TFSI (2008+) in the A4 B8 or newer A5/Q5 from 2008+ if I were you. The HP increased a little, but where it counts is the torque. The older TFSI had 280nm torque, the newer version has 320-350nm+. Also there were some improvements to the engine. Chain driven, cam-belt gone. Better cam lobe (roller version) and modified cylinder head (increased torque) as well as better fuel consumption. There are no doubt more, but I do not know what they are.

Well the A3 had the FSI (1.6 115hp & 2.0 150hp) but the 2.0TFSI they had from 2004+. Of course it depends on where you are from. In Germany the A3 came out in a 3 door (which I like the best) and 5 door sportback models. The N-American market came only in the Sportback version I think from 2006+. The '08 model you are thinking of was probably the facelift/update. Audi added the LED head lights and blinkers to the side mirrors. Along with some engine updates/tweaks. I think Audi is releasing a totally new A3 sometime in 2012 (probably a 2013 model) which should be interesting. I might have to sell my "old" 2007 A4 for one!

The concern is the high pressure fuel pump driven by the intake camshaft has a cam follower that grinds on the intake camshaft, follower and pump causing low fuel pressure. You can't check the high side pressure to see if this is the case. You have to remove the high pressure fuel pump and look at the follower and the camshaft.

Hi everyone
My'07 A3 with the 2.0T was showing low on the high pressure side. Just caught the bad cam follower in time before it did damage to the cam. APR has a setup with a roller cam follower with an improved pump, but, for me, it's not worth it. $$$

Fuel Pump
I have a 2011 A5 with 45k, just had its maintenance done and yesterday driving to nashville from savannah the pump blew on me in chattanooga tennesee. Started to accelerate and stutter stutter shake shake pwfff white smoke out the exhaust. Not very happy, along with the software going weird a few months ago and not letting me accelerate at all.
