unknown warning symbol?
I have a 2002 A6 3.0 that I purchased in December. I have brought the vehicle back to the dealer for an ongoing warning that turned out to be the torque converter. The dealer held the car for a month, and I finally got it back yesterday. Upon driving, a new warning appeared in my information area. The symbol is one that I cannot find in the manual. It is an encircled exclamation point that looks like a tire warning. The difference is to the left of it are 2 arrows, one up and one down, with 3 waved horizontal lines in between. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks a lot.

That is your dynamic headlight control warning. There is a sensor behind the left headlight and one in the right rear quarterpanel (or so I've been told) that control the headlight alignment. I was not even aware that my A6 had this or that it worked, but I lived with the icon for a couple months until someone on audizine told me to pull fuse 10. You might do a search here on "dynamic headlight" and you'll find some discussion.

Best that we could determine, the front sensor had failed. The sensor itself is not replaceable -- you have to replace the whole headlight assembly and that was cost-prohibitive. Since the warning icon was driving me nuts, pulling the fuse just powered off the sensor and icon. It did not reset or fix it to the best of my knowledge, but I never replaced the fuse.

Same symbol and more...
Hello all,
I was just searching for the same symbol you just described, and I am happy that it is not a major issue.
However, I do have another symbol which is the min. oil level indicator. It has been on on the 2ND day of my purchase. Fortunately, I do have a warranty for my 03 A4 3.0 for 12 months, and I will go see the dealer tomorrow, because they just changed the oil when i was waiting to hop in to my car(I assume they did).
My question is is it very likely to have an oil leak? I have never had any issue about leakage on my cars so far, and it concerns me a little bit.

My daughter has the exact same car (with 95k miles) and during a 500 mile drive in 90o weather, including long border waits, the same icon went on. She found her oil was below the minimum line and topped it up. She's had the car 4 years (since 69k) and it never burned or leaked oil. Not sure if this was due to hot weather. If your car has the drip shield under the engine, it will catch any leaks. If you are suspicious, remove the shield and place newspaper underneath the engine. Or let your dealer figure it out. It could be a failing oil sensor.
