Default Noise from front left tire area, control arm maybe?

Hey guys,

So my car is making this weird noise from the front left tire area... It sounds like two pieces of metal clinging together, its weird...kind of a small rattle. It makes the noise every time I hit a bump.

I thought it may have something to do with the brake rotor but I dont think its that. My new suspicion is the front upper control arm. The bushing on the upper control arms seems pretty shot... Could that be making the noise? Is that a common issue?

What do you guys think?

Thanks

most likely you've suspected right. they are a common issue.

Metal clinging sounds more like the sway bar link bushing to me. There is a c shaped piece that connects your sway bar, if the bushing is warn or missing it can make this noise. A severely damaged CA maybe would do that but it usually begins with a squeek, and turns into a clunk not really a clink.

Dallas isnt the sway bar under the car? This noise is clearly coming from the wheel well.

Where can I buy the two upper control arm bushings? I see a whole bunch on ECS but I dont know which one I need, all this upper/front/rear/curved stuff is confusing me... http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-...h/Control_Arm/

I need the front left, upper control arm bushings, both of them...the side closest to the wheel, not the engine.

The bar itself is under the car, but the links are right about center of the wheel and is right there when you take the wheel off. Bushings are possible like the upper part of the upper arm if you think the noise is coming from up real high. I always thought the joint at the pinch bolt failed first though, before those bushings even came close. This: http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-..._Arm/ES257326/ is the only possibility for what you want, this one isnt really clear though... The others are either for your lower control arms, or your rear control arms it looks like. I would take the wheel off and poke around before you order anything though... Then that lower upper rear front curved stuff will make more sense to you at least..

I took a look today and I noticed the upper ones seemed shot. I didnt know the sway bar connections were right at the bottom there so I'll look again tomorrow and see how those look. The sound does seem to be coming from higher up though. Thanks for the info.
