Default A6 (C5) Headlight adjustment - help!

OK a n00bish question I admit (but I did search the forum extensively with no luck before asking!!

I've just got an 2001 A6 2.5 TDI Quattro and the main beam and dip headlights are way off. I see one screw at the top of the headlight unit which appears to adjust height of the dip but not the left/right.

I'm driving the car back home tomorrow (looooong way) so need a bit of quick advice!

Much appreciated

You should look for another plastic screw picking through a hole toward the inner edge, and the same at the top of the headlight unit. That one is for the lateral adjustment.

Thanks for that!

The top bit fell to bits so it's held in postition with crimped wire now - sub optimal but cheaper than a new unit!!

Umm, you could have automatically adjusting headlights. They are controlled by sensors on the suspension and if one of these sensors goes bad (like my rear sensor) then the headlights will default to a position way, way lower than it should (like 5 feet in front of the car). One remedy is to use vagcom to reset the level. The screws on the actual headlights are more for fine-tuning.
