The esp light has come on and stayed on in my '02 1.9 tdi Sport. Pressing the esp button does nothing. Are there any known/common failures in the esp system that are worth checking before taking it to the agent? I get the feeling this could be expensive...

 

The ESP has its own fuse - check if its blown for any reason. Short in the system?

Other than that - I cant suggest anything else.

Oh and one other thing. Since the esp warning has come on, the ABS light sometimes comes on and sometimes doesn't. haven't done the 'slam the anchors on hard and see if it pulsates' test yet but will do tomorrow

mite be a leak somewhere in ur hoses, when the dealer was attaching my front bumper, they dmg one of the hoses, and my car was jerking like carzy when i got home, esp and abs light were both on, and the car was just rattled, not sure if its ur exact problem, but somethin to look into

 

Not my problem, I'll try to find someone with a VAG-COM.
