Front ash tray will not eject.
Eversince I bought my 2001 Audi A4, the ash tray has been stuck. I bought it used a couple of months ago (my first car). I eventualy pried it open with a screw driver last night. It had a whole bunch of stuff inside it. coins, bobby pins, paper scraps, you name it. So, as I've been reading, coins often get stuck in there and cause the problem. Maybe it was the bobby pin, who knows? reguardless of what is back there, I think something is stuck behind the ash tray, and it will not eject as a result. I've tried using a clothes hanger and duct tape to try and fish it out with no luck. So I'm trying to figure out what other options I have. Do I have to take the entire ashtray unit out? If so, how would I do that? thanks.

Mine's stuck right now too. It popped right out when I took out the shifter assembly though. I probably should have tried to fix it when I was in there but I was under time constraints. I mean, if you don't smoke its not that big of a deal.

I don't know how it is in the '01 B5's, but in my pre-facelift, the ashtray is part of the center console. And last week while I had that out, I removed all $0.37 from inside the hinges and sprayed the thing with WD-40; and it still does not work.
So I'd say, get used to it and keep tossing your cigarettes out the window.

Mine gets jammed up with coins about every two months or so. I'll get dumb and put one too many in there, one will slip behind, jam it up, and I have to spend several minutes with a screwdriver, swearing enough to fog the windshield, until I get it opened up and dump the change.
