Thats not an error - that is a service reminder. There is also "IN1" and "OIL" that may show. These pop up according to mileage. On my 98 you can remove these using a combination of the cluster switches, but i think with a 97 you have to use the VAG to clear it or have the dealer do it... Its annoying, but does not indicate any problem with the car.

not nessasarily most people have these messages flashing on the 97s cuz they dont wanna get raped by the dealer and either do the maintenance themselves or take it to a shop that doesnt have a vag

Note that there are things like the greasing of the sunroof tracks, etc that are done on this service, that a typical owner would not think to do themselves... If you do NOT do any of your own service, it is wise to stick to the service plan and bring the car in.<edited><editID>brrman</editID><editDate>38050.0508680556</editDate></edited>

RE: Error Code 97 A4
I also get this "IN2" message, is there any way of getting rid of it?I have my car serviced by a local garage. When i first got my car it was flashing "IN2" so i had it serviced by Audisince it had full Audi service history (i thought i'd continue the trend), at 83k miles they charged me £320.
Since that mistake, I have had it serviced by local garage 2 times since then for a fraction of the price. But they dont know how to get rid of this "IN2". Any way of getting rid without using fancy equipment? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have '97 A4 standard 1.8
